Coach Training schedule
Required trainings for all coaches
These trainings are required of ALL aquatics staff at the Cook County YMCA
- Basic Life Support (Professional Rescuer CPR)
- Cook County YMCA can provide American Red Cross CPR and AED for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid to meet this requirement.
- Cook County can also accept the following certifications to meet this requirement, but is unable to provide recertification for any of the below:
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers
- American Red Cross Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers
- ASHI Basic Life Support
- Ellis & Associates Basic Life Support
- ECSI Healthcare Provider CPR
- EMS Safety Basic Life Support
- National Safety Council Basic Life Support for Health Care & Professional Rescuers
- Starfish Aquatics Institute Basic Life Support
- Already CPR certified? Contact the aquatics coordinator to verify you certification or to complete a skills challenge course.
- Safety Training for Swim Coaches
- Includes an online component and 4 hours of in-water skills session.
- A current American Red Cross or YMCA Lifeguard certification or YMCA Aquatics Safety Assistant certification to satisfy this requirement.
- All assigned association Westbend trainings
Additional required trainings to recieve a deck pass
In order to receive a deck pass to coach at swim meets, especially sections, state and/or regionals, coaches must complete the following courses no later than December 1.

- First Aid
- Cook County include First Aid training with all CPR and Lifeguarding classes it provides.
- Cook County can also accept first aid certifications from the following providers to satisfy this requirement:
- American Heart Association:
- American Red Cross

- ECSI
- Ellis & Associates
- Starfish Aquatics
- Principles of Competitive Swimming and Diving
- Online training and workbook available online through link.ymca.net.

All assigned Westbend Trainings; coaches will not be eligible to coach until Westbend trainings are completed.
American Red Cross CPR and AED for the Professional Rescuer online course. In-service and coaches meeting. Season planning and goals set-up. CPR/ AED and First Aid; In-Person Skills Practice New Coaches must present certificate of completion for online content prior to attending the skills session. |
