EMERGENCY ACTION PLANS
The below video and excerpt from the Red Cross Lifeguard manual contains general information about emergency actions plans and the general steps to follow in various emergencies.
KEY POINTS FROM THIS SECTION
- Lifeguard's are responsible for emergencies in all areas of the facility and should be prepared to respond both in the pool area and outside the pool area.
- The general steps to responding to an emergency are the same regardless of where the emergency takes place.
- Recognize that an emergency is happening
- Activate the facility Emergency Action Plan (EAP)
- Preform a water rescue or provide emergency care
- Report the incident by filling out required incident report form(s)
- Advise the victim of the next steps, if applicable
- Release the victim, if appropriate
- Lifeguards and other members of the facility safety team will work together by following the plan outlined in the facility emergency action plan.
